Breitling introduced its Breitling Emergency watch — the first wristwatch with a built-in emergency microtransmitter — in 1995. Since then, the watch has been worn and used by many professional pilots and has played a role in numerous search-and-rescue missions. At Baselworld 2013, Breitling introduced another world-first with its Emergency II, the first watch with a dual frequency locator beacon.

The original Breitling Emergency, which was designed to enable accurate homing in on pilots or passengers following a plane crash, operated on the 121.5 MHz international air distress frequency. Pilots prized it for its utility: it could be worn constantly on the wrist and serve as a supplement to standard onboard aircraft equipment. Around 40,000 Breitling Emergency watches have been sold since their launch.

The Breitling Emergency II represents the next generation of its predecessor’s life-saving microtechnology. The very first wristwatch equipped with a built-in personal locator beacon (PLB), its dual frequency transmitter is compliant with the specifications of the Cospas-Sarsat international satellite alert system and can be used both to issue alerts and to guide search-and-rescue missions.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Watches. New line born.

Arnold-Schwarzenegger-Watches-for-2015-aBlogtoWatch-7Arnold Schwarzenegger has just taken the ultimate plunge as a serious watch lover and launched his own brand of eponymously named watches with the new Arnold Schwarzenegger watch brand. Most of the Arnold Schwarzenegger watches will be priced in the $600 – $1,500 range and represent Arnold’s character, career, and timepiece preferences. I sat down with Arnold Schwarzenegger at Baselworld 2015 to chat about watches, his collection, and why now was the time to start his own watch collection with his name on the dial. And, yes of course, the watches are massive. Even the ladies’ versions are 45mm wide.

Revolutionary Rolex…

Castro1The dichotomy of Communism is no better illustrated than the fact that legendary socialist revolutionaries Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara and Fidel Castro both wore Rolex watches. In fact Fidel Castro wore a sport model Rolex Submariner when he overthrew dictator Fulgencio Batista during the Cuban Revolution in 1959. In this image from the LIFE Magazine archives we see Submariner wearing Castro standing on the balcony of the Hilton Hotel with friends after his triumphant entry into Havana, Cuba.

The OMEGA Seamaster Apnea

Frenchman Jacques Mayol was known as the “human dolphin” and started his association with OMEGA in 1981, when he tested the new Seamaster 120 watch on his record-breaking free dive to a depth of 101 metres, beating by one metre his famous record of 1976 when he broke the magic 100-metre barrier. These dives were part of a long-running rivalry with Italian diver Enzo Maiorca (the first man to breath-hold dive below 50 metres) lasting over ten years, which saw freedive depths double within a decade and provided the inspiration for Luc Besson’s film”The Big Blue”, which led to notoriety for both Mayol and Maiorca.

Relojes: Flieger B-Uhren Baumuster B
